Series:
Highgate New Town

Highgate New Town is a project exploring the brutalist architecture of the Whittington estate in Camden, north London, completed in 1979.

Using coloured pencils, the drawings in this series depict a partially fictionalised  version of reality on the estate. They seek to express certain qualities through abstraction, exaggeration and careful re-composition.

What can the act of drawing tell us about the city that a photograph cannot?

The scenes are deserted, but through the atmospheric use of colour and light they convey a sense of belonging, hinting at a range of social activity beyond what we see.
